(Sinulat ko itong naive little gem nung high school, pero nai-upload ko lang sa sinauna kong blog noong Apr 13, 2004.)
As black, murky liquid spewed out of the grendel’s* head,
You begin to wonder for reasons yet unsaid,
If all the gallivanting that left you hoarse and red
Were ever worth a night upon the young princess’ bed.
You had crossed the scorching-est deserts / and had scored the illimitable seas,
Invoked vengeance upon the weeping, / belligerent townspeople’s fees.
You waged battle against almost all / of the nation’s toughest teams,
And thus became the erstwhile hero / and many a woman’s dream.
Wound upon wound, scald upon burn, / spun ideas of you going back
But seeing the drawbridge and alligator moat / made you think twice about losing track
What had you been fighting for? What had been at stake?
Why die for a woman and her dull kingdom’s sake?
You don’t know this woman, though she’s your reward,
She’s waiting with her hair down and a purple thank you card
But love is a wild animal, that was the point of the bard
So you used your head and turned around
Although it was very hard.
* if memory serves, that monster in that story with the guy who goes by a name that sounds something like ‘bay-wolf’
